I’m still loving Osteospermum hybrid Sunny ‘Sheila’. The colors are amazing… much more intense and coppery in person than in photos and the way light plays with the petals is really fun.

This is a great picture and a great plant! Your photography does her justice.
That’s a gorgeous flower. Even nicer, if it grows as perennial where you are?
I am going to have to find this one for sure ! Thanks for the heads up on it : )
Joy
Thanks, Ferne!
Bob, it did winter over nicely. African daisies can be a little marginal here, but so can lots of other plants. It’s definitely worth planting.
Joy, I’m not sure if the name is ‘Sheila’ or ‘Sunny Sheila’. The Proven winners website lists it as Osteospermum… bla bla bla… Sunny ‘Sheila’. Don’t know if that’s a typo and it’s ‘Sunny Sheila’ or if you’ll find it under the name ‘Sheila’. I got mine at Capital Nursery in Sacramento. You might find out who sells Proven Winners plants in your area.

Yummy color…makes me wish summer was here already! Still a bit chilly up in Portland…
I MUST have this! I have such a soft spot for osteospermum, yet I never plant them? Why? I don’t know. I also love O. ‘Buttercup’ – such a beautiful, soft yellow…
Now I’m in love. With Sheila…
You are an amazing photographer! I am so embarrassed about my amateur point and shoot antics now!
What do you like it paired with – color-wise & plant-wise? That color can be a knockout – even more so when paired right – any winners there?
Beautiful photo…good blog! I’m at the southwest corner of the state (Have family in the Sac area) and this flower would do well here.
Ferne and Germi,
Wanna know one of my secrets to good photos? Don’t get me wrong… I take plenty of crappy pics when I just need to git ‘er done, but when I whip out my Photoflex transluscent LiteDisc… things go much better. It basically diffuses harsh sunlight. If you’re feeling thrifty, you can Google around and learn how to make a diffuser. Try this, ladies, and report back!
Cloverann,
Right now it’s growing near lavender and agapanthus. I think anything that pulls out the pink/purple would be great. Also, I’ll bet chartreuse foliage would really make the copper tones pop!
Hi,
Since we are in the same USDA zone 9b, I am interested in growing these. Do you start them from seed? If so, what month do you plant? The photo is gorgeous!
