I’ve always admired this yard on 51st Street while driving past on my way to the store, but this time I had to stop. We had a pretty good freeze this winter, but these succulents, cacti, and other interesting plants look spectacular. All I can say is, “Wow!” Yards like this are not common in Sacramento.
The house next door had these spectacular roses.
Lovely!
Yes, it reminds me of many of the coastal gardens I’m drawn to; not the desert for some reason. I guess it’s the variety, and the inclusion of poppies, ice plant and echium. When I was taking phone pics, a woman driving by slowed her car for just long enough to say, “Your garden looks great!”. I laughed and nodded. Not my garden, but yeah! 😉
I’m of the opinion that people who plant cactus should be shot on sight. I’ve actually had to dig out cactus before. It got out of control in a neighbor’s yard and got a nice little foothold in my mother’s yard (this was while I was away at college). Now, it’s nice that the homeowner mixed in color to go with the cactus. It is showy. But someone will be required to dig this out at some point. And I do not wish to be that person.
LOL. I rarely plant cacti, but I am deeply in LOVE with succulents. I think this yard is really fun and it’s definitely a water-saver!
I too walk by this yard often on my walks and although it is not quite my style I do stop to appreciate it’s uniqueness and beauty. It definitely stands out in our neighborhood! I never really noticed how vibrant the colors of this garden were until I saw your pictures. I guess I always just stare at the giant cactus. Next time I walk by it I will have to take a closer look!
