Ok, so I checked out EcoLandscape California’s River-Friendly display garden at the Northern California Home & Landscape Expo. It’s really great to see this topic reaching the general public at a home show.
The Sacramento UC Master Gardeners also had a booth nearby. I finally got a chance to try out the UC IPM kiosk! Woo hoo! It’s super, super cool and much smaller in person than I imagined from the photo on the IPM website. It’s the perfect size for a nursery counter! I want one… though I have no nursery… rats! Speaking of rats, after a test search, the machine spit out environmentally friendly control recommendations for rats. A friend of ours in East Sac. is having a rat problem.
The little machine works great. The touch screen is easy to use, buttons are fast and responsive, and the little printer is a very nice touch. Great job, UC IPM folks!
Hello:
I ran across this blog entry while looking for photographs for a plan I’m working on.
I also have an env hort degree from UCD & used to have a house at Fulton & Marconi (in Denver area now).
I like your eye. Keep up the good work.
Best,
D
The metal sculptures amid the plants were cool. So was the UC IPM machine.
Great pictures!
I love the variety of subjects you cover. I added you to my blogroll! Have a great day Angela.

Thanks for posting the info about River Friendly Landscaping at the Expo. Very good photos! Many thanks are due to EcoLandscape California for putting together a great display. Sacramento County Stormwater Program was the major sponsor of the display, and we were very happy to have River Friendly concepts presented to the audience attending the Expo.
Sacramento County residents can get hard copies of our River Friendly Landscape Guidelines free via our http://www.riverfriendly.org site, and pdf downloads are available for all. There are links to landscape IPM info, and also a sign up for periodic email updates on River Friendly trainings/events/publications for gardeners and landscapers, as well as monthly River Friendly and IPM tips.

I’m curious what the rat recommendations were…roof rats running along the overhead wires really interfere with enjoying a summer evening here…especially when they show up in the privets near the bird feeders.
Thanks Angela for sharing. Looks like it was a really cool display on IPM and I noticed the had a compost bin (looks like the one I have). Great photos!

Leslie, here’s a link to the UC IPM Pest Note for rats: Pest Note 74106
Thanks, Angela!
