Bird photography is torture. As soon as you get close enough to get a good shot, they fly away. The moment you walk away, they fly back to the feeders. That’s just mean!
This is the best I could do with a smallish telephoto lens and additional cropping.
Nice shot! I haven’t seen any Lesser Goldfinches in Davis proper, but clearly they must be around (I’ve seen them outside Winters).
Bird photography is such a huge headache. I’ve largely given up and switched to inverts…much easier to approach.

All Lesser Goldfinches in this pic except for the one on top (an American Goldfinch). Note the more brownish body color and the white (rather than yellow) area under the tail. Nice shot!
